They are a member of the nightshade family, commonly used in Latin American cuisine, particularly Mexican and Central American dishes. They have a distinct tart, slightly sweet flavor, often used in salsa verde, a popular sauce in Mexican cooking. Size: About 1-2 inches in diameter. Color: Bright green, sometimes with purple hues. Husk: Covered in a thin, papery husk. Fruit: Smooth, firm, shiny, and slightly sticky. Tart: A distinctively tart and acidic flavor. Sweet: A subtle sweetness that balances the tartness.
